SyncBack4all file sync real time

SyncBack4all has a function called real time file synchronization, user can enable the function use two way.

The first way

On the program main window task list, select one task and then click the top button “Real time”, see picture below:

The second way

Enable the real time function during the task create wizard, see picture below.

Once the real time sync function is enable SyncBack4all will start the real time auto monitor engine on the Windows Task Process to watch the specific folders or files changes status, like create new, update, delete, etc.

The real time sync function can support both one way sync and two way sync. In one way sync, the program will only monitor the source folders and copy the new and updated files to the target folder once the change has happens. In two way sync method, syncback4all will monitor both source and target folder, and will do the actions follow the sync method alg. Below we further explain the sync methods ALG of the syncback4all,

One way Sync Methods:

Update target folder only: Update the target folder if the file was changed in the source.
Update target folder and delete obsolete files from target folder: Update target file and delete the files which didn't exist in source folder.
Mirror: Make target exact same as source folder, this means that all modifications in the target folder will be discard. Use with caution, but don't be worry, the syncback4all also has a small feature to Save previous versions of deleted/replaced files, this function design is for the user may misoperation deleted or replaced the useful files, then the useful files can be found within the folder: -_syncback4all_saves_, but please note this folder only keep the one version, the one version is enough because this is sync not backup, if you want to keep more backup version you can use the syncback4all backup function.

Two way sync Methods:

Smart Bi-directional sync: Copy changed files from source to target, delete files from source if they don't exist in the target, and vice versa.
Expanded Bi-directional sync (Merge): similar to the Smart Bi-directional sync, but the difference is it will not delete obsolete file, instead, if a file exists in one side only, it will be copy to another side.

Please note the above all sync methods are all use for real time function.

How about the speed?

It’s very hard to say, it depend on your files quantity, files size, and storage media type, and network speed, etc.

What we suggestion?

We suggestion user use real time sync function to synchronize small and change frequently higher files and folders, you may total has 2T files storage size, but you know only small files and a few folders are always changes, so I suggestion you only setup one or a few task only for them in real time function, you can setup many task are do the real time sync at one time, but I don’t suggest you use the real time file sync to monitor the whole disk files, no one real time file sync software can do the monitor the whole disk, if you want to do you can use the disk mirroring RAID technology, because the syncback4all only focus on the files, not one the disk, in other, someone say use the block technology, it only for network, not useful local and USB HDD, you can try it by yourself to compare what they really do?
